@Silent Appears on Instagram DM’s
Many Instagram users have noticed a weird new term that shows on the DMs tab in recent weeks. When you send a direct message to someone, a new message with the word ‘Silent’ displayed at the top of the page. A bell symbol with a line through it displays next to the word, and a ‘@’ sign appears in the text field.

People have also noticed an odd message called ‘@silent’ appearing in their DMs, but what is it? Here’s what it all implies,
@Silent, as the name implies, allows you to send messages without alerting the recipient. This feature is still being tested by Instagram and may not be available in all locations. When you open an Instagram DM chat and type “@,” you’ll get a message at the top that says “Send message without a notification.” There is a silent icon next to the words.

@silent’ is a new function that allows you to send Instagram DMs without alerting the other person or group chat members. Your message will send normally if you write ‘@silent’ in the text box. The recipient, on the other hand, will not receive a notification on their device.
It’s a useful option to have if you want to send someone a message that isn’t urgent and doesn’t need to be seen right away. When the recipient enters into Instagram and goes to the DMs page, the message will appear as usual. To use the feature, simply include ‘@silent’ at the beginning of your DM.
How to use @Silent on Instagram DM?
Silent messages have only been observed in testing on certain accounts so far, and there’s no news yet on whether it’ll be broadly launched. You may check if you already have it in your Instagram message area. If you don’t want to irritate someone with your message notifications, you can use the silent feature which will deliver the message as usual but without a notification.
Step 1: Open the chat you’d like to send a silent message to.
Step 2: Before sending a message, write “@silent” in the subject line. Then type your message on a new line and email it.
Step 3: The message, along with the silent tag, will be forwarded to the other person. However, they will not be notified. They’ll see the message as usual when they go to their DMs.
You must include the quiet tag in every message if you want it to be sent silently.
Is this feature truly beneficial? It is debatable! It may seem counterintuitive to some, but it can be really useful for others, particularly if you don’t want someone to be bothered with SMS notifications.
